The University of Comillas signed a cooperation agreement with the Focus-Abengoa Foundation on 21 November to create the Javier Benjumea chair. The primary objective of the initiative is to implement research and educational activities to increase theoretical knowledge in the field of business ethics and responsible business practices, with a view to promoting their implementation in companies and organisations. Other objectives are to promote research into areas related to corporate social responsibility and business citizenship and the key ethical principles of a fair, prosperous economy; to encourage responsible, ethical leadership in the context of a global economy, based on moral values and ethical principles; to promote good business practice and an ethical business culture; and to emphasise the moral dimension of companies and organizations to create a more solid economy and a fairer society.

To achieve these objectives, the chair will coordinate the teaching of business ethics at the University of Comillas, train teachers, develop new innovative technologies, provide refresher training for people working in this field and run a permanent Economic and Business Ethics Seminar. It will also create a reference collection in the University library, specialising in economic and business ethics, and carry out theoretical and applied research projects.
